HANK HAPPENINGS
PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO READ THE
UPCOMING EVENTS, INFORMATION & PROJECTS AT
HANK WILLIAMS MUSEUM, MONTGOMERY, AL

January 1, 2005 was a beautiful sunny day in Montgomery, Alabama. The day was perfect for us unlike the September hurricane of 2004 that blasted our celebration for Hank's 81st birthday.  Approximately two hundred Hank Williams' fans gathered at the Oakwood Cemetery Annex to pay their respects to this great legend for the 52nd anniversary of his death.  Following the services, everyone was invited to the museum music hall for entertainment and the traditional black-eyed peas and cornbread.  When entering the museum, only one person asked, "where's the food?" so that told me that the other 199 people were here to visit with friends that we sometimes only see once or twice a year.  We gather each year on New Year's Day to remember the Man, the Legend, the most famous country singer in history…Hank Williams.  Fans traveled from New York, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Florida, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Utah, South Carolina, California, and even from the Netherlands.  Last but not least, Alabama was represented from nearly every county in the state.  Musicians from all over entertained the crowd, singing and playing their favorite Hank tunes.  Memories are shared between friends who have an opportunity to reunite on this special day and we do it all because of Hank Williams.  I've never felt the warmth and friendliness that was here on the 1st day of January 2005.  I want to personally thank all of the fans for making this day special for the museum to remember!

Group Tours Hank Williams is one of the most recognizable figures in all kinds of music and is remembered around the world.  We would like to invite your groups to tour our facility and take a journey into the past life and times of Hank Williams.  The younger generation will see and learn a part of history while others have the opportunity to recap memories. These group rates apply to confirmed reservations only. Please help by passing along the information about the Museum to your church groups, schools, senior citizen groups, and tour guides in your area. Please contact me for a tour @ 334-262-3600.

Christmas ornaments The 2004 Hank Williams Museum Christmas tree was decorated with ornaments from fans around the world. We had 30 participants the first year.  They came from Germany, Ireland, Canada, and 27 other cities across the US.  The ornament that took center front was a crystal base fiddle with an engraving that read "In Memory of Lum York" and was sent by his wife, Nita, his daughter Kelly, son-in-law Kevin and granddaughter Kirby.  Lum will always be remembered and will always have a special place in this museum.  I think the most unusual ornament (if I had to judge one) would be the mini baseball bat with a Santa hat from the Chicago Whitesox.  So, get creative and send one from YOUR household to hang of the tree for 2005.

For those of you not participating in these fun little projects… Shame, Shame!  Here is your chance to shine and get recognized around the museum.  This museum is all about the fans.  Please take a moment to:
send in your birthday for the calendar
draw a picture for the calendar
send an ornament for the tree
write a check and become a member
send me an email
plan your vacation for one of the special events
tell a friend about Hank!
I know you want to, but time gets away from us all. I'm guilty! So, take time to help us keep things alive and exciting!  THANK YOU!
